ACRIA
AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA)

Operating support

For operating support to enable ACRIA, a community- based AIDS research and treatment education agency, to continue its activities and research.

ACRIA identifies scientifically promising experimental treatments for AIDS and designs and implements clinical trials on these therapies. The organization collaborates with recognized leaders in AIDS research and treatment, primary care physicians, and people living with HIV/AIDS.  It also conducts research on the health literacy and behavior of HIV positive individuals and on HIV disease and treatments, and disseminates this information to disease-stricken communities.

ACRIA´s primary research function is complemented by an education component designed to empower people living with AIDS to take an active role in their treatment.  In 2006, ACRIA released its groundbreaking Research on Older Adults with HIV study, which cemented ACRIA´s reputation as the preeminent authority and resource on the fast-growing population of people over fifty living with HIV.  These research efforts led to the launch in 2008 of ACRIA’s Center on HIV & Aging.  Individual and group workshops, a quarterly publication, training for nonmedical service providers, and community forums led by leaders in the field of AIDS research and treatment comprise the majority of ACRIA’s education initiatives.
